UK Expansion Worker Visa

Set up a Branch of an Overseas Business

Apply for a UK Expansion Visa if you intend to set up a branch of an overseas business that has not started trading in the UK yet. You must already work as a senior manager or specialist employee for the overseas business.

If the overseas business is already trading in the UK, you should apply under a Senior or Specialist Worker visa category instead.

Main requirements

To be eligible for a UK Expansion Worker visa you need to:

  • Valid CoS
    have a valid certificate of sponsorship from your employer

  • Worked for Overseas Business
    have worked for your employer outside the UK

  • Job
    do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations

  • Salary
    be paid the minimum eligible salary required for your job

Maximum Stay

If you want to stay longer in the UK, you can extend your visa by 12 months. The maximum time you can stay in the UK on a UK Expansion Worker visa is 2 years.

You can and cannot do.

If your application is successful, you’ll get a full list of what you can and cannot do with this visa.

You can:
  • study

  • work for your sponsor in the job described in your certificate of sponsorship

  • voluntary work

  • bring your partner and children with you as your ‘dependants’, if they’re eligible

  • travel abroad and return to the UK

You cannot:
  • apply for most benefits or the State Pension

  • change jobs unless you are eligible

  • have a second job

  • apply to settle permanently in the UK (also known as ‘indefinite leave to remain’)

UK Skilled Worker Visa

Changes are expected in Skilled Worker Visas in 2025.

To come to the United Kingdom and/or stay working in a job with an employer.

To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa, you must:

  • work for an approved UK employer

  • have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’

  • work in an eligible job

  • be paid a minimum salary

Your visa can last for up to 5 years. If you intend to stay longer in the UK, either extend it or may be eligible to apply to settle permanently in the United Kingdom.

UK Innovator Founder Visa

Previously known as Innovator Visa, UK Innovator Founder Visa is for those who intend to set up a business or several businesses, innovative, which is something different from anything else in the United Kingdom.

The Business Idea must be:

  • new - you cannot join a business that is already trading

  • innovative - you must have an original business idea which is different from anything else on the market

  • viable, with potential for growth

  • scalable - you must give evidence of planning that includes creating jobs and growing into national and international markets

For a Business Idea to meet the requirements of the visa, it must be assessed by an Endorsing Body.

You may be granted a 3-year visa to stay in the UK after which you may be able to apply for settlement.
